Monsoon Veranda

Brief

A deep threshold between interior and rain — eaves, laterite and a doorway of warm light.

Challenge. Kerala’s monsoon is not a problem to seal out. It is a condition to live with, gracefully.

Design response. The veranda is sized for weather. Water is allowed to be seen and heard. Interior light becomes a counterpart to grey sky.

Experience. Shelter without enclosure. The house breathing with the season.
